aboutS&P people

Shea & Poor is a family business based on family values. It is also one of the longest standing insurance agencies in central Massachusetts, dating back to 1889.

Charles Poor and Daniel Shea built the business by taking a personal interest in the needs and expectations of every client, and that philosophy continued when Shea's daughter, Susan, and her husband Christopher Dougherty took over the business. In 2005, the agency was purchased by Sullivan, Garrity & Donnelly Insurance and Robert Powers Insurance.

Day-to-day, one-on-one, everyone at the agency makes it clear to every customer, every company representative, and every vendor that they are a valued part of the Shea & Poor family. Simply put, we are fully invested in the professional and personal well-being of everyone we work with – not because of some overriding financial motivation, but because we genuinely care about people; as individuals, as parents, as homeowners, as business owners.

We form close relationships with our customers based on a level of commitment that is becoming increasingly rare in our society. We establish a level of confidence and trust that builds and sustains long-term relationships. Our forty employees at four locations provide guidance and service that is nothing short of exceptional, whether you need auto insurance, homeowners, business insurance, investment guidance, or employee benefits.

Our professional expertise and responsive operations have built lasting relationships with the most respected insurance carriers and financial institutions in the country.

Some would have you believe that insurance is a price-driven commodity. We don't believe that. Rather, we believe that insurance is a complex investment that requires professional guidance, competitive products, and a caring attitude.

And that's what we provide – every day.
